A New Beginning
My First Suminagashi Workshop in Hamburg

After moving to Hamburg four months ago, I finally held my first Suminagashi workshop at Sillem 38. I’m super grateful for the incredible support from Sillem 38, Inken, and Josef—their warmth and encouragement have been invaluable every step of the way! 🌊✨
It was a great joy to share my Suminagashi technique with such a wonderful group of therapists, creating not just unique Suminagashi art patterns but also memorable moments and connections.
One of the highlights was hearing from participants about what they took away from the experience. Time seemed to fly as we focused on the present moment, and the unique creations reflected the diverse energies in the room. It was like a warm reminder of the importance of letting go and embracing the different beauties in the journey.

As a newcomer to Hamburg, I didn’t have much of a network yet. Sillem 38 was the very first collaborator I approached. I remember knocking on their door, asking for the founder’s contact, and introducing myself and my workshop idea. What followed truly touched me in ways I didn’t expect. 🙏🏻☀️
Josef, one of the founder of Sillem38, replied to me immediately, asking what I needed for the workshop. When I finally met him and some of the therapists at Sillem 38, I was amazed by how genuinely kind and supportive they were. I can’t express enough how much their warmth and encouragement meant to me. Inken and Josef didn’t hesitate to offer their help, ensuring that I had what I needed to make the workshop a success. Their words and actions were so selfless and generous that I was moved beyond words.
Through their support, I was connected to an inspiring community of individuals—therapists, artists, and so many wonderful people. As someone starting a new chapter in a new city, I feel so lucky and grateful to have met them at the very beginning of my journey.
Whoever says Germans are cold and unfriendly couldn’t be more wrong! So far, 99.9% of the people I’ve met here have been so positive, welcoming, warm hearted and supportive.

During the workshop, when we shared thoughts about how water carries memories and how the process allows us to embrace freedom and joy by going with the flow, it was such a meaningful exchange, where we all connected over this beautiful tradition. Even though we were communicating in our second languages, smiles, kindness, and art truly became our universal language!
I’m so excited for what’s ahead—meeting more amazing people through this Suminagashi journey and maybe even creating an event for kids in the future! Here’s to more connection, creativity, and shared joy. 💙
Thank you again to Sillem 38 for being such a special part of my story here in Hamburg. 🌊✨
