Suminagashi Meets Analogue Travel Photos — 2023
In this art project, I merge the traditional technique of Suminagashi with my passion for travel photography. This series captures my journey to Europe in January 2023, featuring selected shots from the trip. The unique colours in the photographs were created through a special E-6 to C-41 cross-processing development. This method was necessitated when I nearly damaged the film inside the camera, requiring manual rewinding and consultation with a photography development expert.
The chemical process resulted in unexpected and beautiful colour effects, adding a magical touch to the photos. These colours, combined with Suminagashi patterns, surprisingly aligned with my feelings and memories of the trip. The result is a deeply personal and evocative series that commemorates my travels in an enjoyable and unique way.
